Pursue pain.

The pursuit of happiness leads towards an incessant and intolerant desire for something more. It creates a hole that can never be filled. This is the root of addictions, corruption, self-pity, and self-destruction. When we pursue pain and commit to something despite the struggle, we escape from the race that has no finish line—chasing the ultimate happiness.

  1. Choose what pain to bring into your life.
The opportunities to grow from pain are constant: the pain of regular physical exercise, the sacrifice of a strong work ethic, one’s willingness to engage in conflict or stand up for yourself, etc.

  2. Engage with pain. Find value and meaning in it.
