Learn to forgive others.

Once you decide to forgive others and let your negative feelings fade away, you are on the road to freedom and happiness. Release yourself from your pain and take responsibility for your happiness—forgive those who have wronged you.

Instructions

  1. Find compassion for the person who wronged you.
To do this, imagine the person you’re resentful of as a little kid. Think of them acting out of fear and attempting to deal with their own suffering in the only way they know.

  2. Take the other person out of the equation; focus on the problem and not your anger or frustration.
Regardless of what they have done, remove them from the picture. If you have nobody to be angry at, it’s hard to be angry. Look at the problem on its own, as objectively as possible, and try to find a solution.

  3. Tell yourself, “My happiness is more important than being right.”
Repeat it until you believe it, and you have let the issue go. A big obstacle you might encounter while trying to forgive someone is them not accepting their mistake. However, you’ll be a lot happier if you just let the issue go. So, let it go.

  4. Consider all the perspectives.
Now, think about the situation from the other person’s point of view. Is there an aspect of the problem that you missed earlier?

  5. Once you have forgiven the other person, forget about the issue.
Once you’ve forgiven the other person, wipe the slate clean and expect the best from them, regardless of what they’ve done in the past. People can change if you give them a chance.
