Keep Yellow personalities on track

Instructions

  1. Know when they are listening.
Yellows are notoriously bad listeners. When talking to them, be clear about the message you want to give them and the response you require from them. If you don’t get this response and you don’t think they have heard you, be prepared to repeat yourself.
  2. Set a clear schedule. Yellows are overly optimistic about time and always assume they’ve got plenty of time to get things done. They won’t worry about deadlines and scheduling unless you help them. Create a clear schedule and timeline for them and set up appointments. Make sure that they stick to it, so they stay on track.
  3. Write lists.
Yellows will also forget things as their mind switches to something else. They’re terrible at staying organized, so you should write lists to help them keep track of everything.
  4. Push them to take action.
Even when you encourage them to start planning, they’ll often get stuck in this stage and procrastinate. So you need to encourage them to take action and start tasks gently. But don’t push too hard; they’re likely to respond badly if they feel they are being bossed around.
  5. Be persistent with negative feedback.
Yellows are so positive that they don’t take negative feedback on board very well. They may get defensive, or it could go over their heads. So, be persistent and reiterate your criticisms. However, couple it with praise and let them know you are not trying to attack them.
