Implement your management and people strategy

Instructions

  1. Identify the core experience you want to deliver.
Make sure this is clear in your mind, and you that can distill it into a few sentences. For example, “This restaurant business will deliver a luxury dining experience for an affordable price.”

  2. Create an operations manual to deliver that experience.
For example, suppose your business aims to deliver a luxury dining experience for an affordable price. In that case, you may implement specific instructions about greeting people, uniforms, wine pouring, etc., in your server. These specific processes must be repeatable, so the experience will always be always consistent. In your operations manual, you should also include the strategic objective and organizational strategy, so employees have a clear idea of the aims of the business.

  3. Communicate the idea behind the business to employees.
When hiring and onboarding employees, you must communicate the idea behind the business to employees. This is important for two reasons; firstly, it helps people understand what their role is and the reason for the directions in the operations manual. Secondly, your passion for the underlying ideas motivates people to follow the operations manual.
