Give questionnaires to find your customers’ demographics and psychographics

Instructions

  1. Write a questionnaire for customers.
Write a questionnaire for your customers. Ask for information about age, gender, and buying habits. Also, create more open-ended questions about why they like the business, what they would change about products, etc.

  2. Provide an incentive to fill it in.
People won’t give you their time for free. So, you need to give them an incentive to fill out the questionnaire and return it to them. Offering a free product or a discount of some kind is a good way to encourage people.

  3. Evaluate their answers.
Once you have collected the answers, evaluate them all. Look for patterns and identify if there is a specific group of people that appear more than most. You might find that a large percentage of your customers are women between the ages of 25 and 30, for example. This is your demographic. You can evaluate the other answers to give you an indication of why they buy your products.

  4. Write customer profiles.
Using the information you have gathered, write a customer profile of your average customer. Include their age, gender, social class, and reasons for purchasing your products. This gives you a clear idea of who you are trying to market your products to.
