Follow these principles to create a movement.
from Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us by Seth Godin
There have been many failed movements. This is mostly because they did not follow some of these movement creation principles.
How to Apply This
-
Be very transparent.
People that follow you aren’t stupid. If you’re hiding something, they will eventually figure it out. -
Make a movement that’s bigger than you.
A movement is built upon a change, and you can’t do it all by yourself. -
To thrive, grow your movement.
Make your movement grow every single day. -
Movements are made most clear when compared to the status quo or to movements that work to push the other direction.
When you compare movements that go in a similar direction, they don’t do as well. -
Exclude outsiders.
This is a very powerful force for loyalty and attention. The people that aren’t part of your movement matter almost as much as the people who are. -
Tearing others down is never as helpful to a movement as building your followers up.
