Enable your team to achieve results without your direct involvement

Instructions

  1. Establish ownership upfront.
Name the lead and make sure their roles are clear, then get out of their way. But be sure to communicate to them their responsibility for the end result.

  2. Invest resources.
Once you’ve established an ownership position, begin to infuse the knowledge and resources the person will need to deliver their accountability successfully. Teach, coach, and provide a backup for other employees to assist when they need help because very few people enjoy falling on their backs and getting rescued by their bosses.

  3. Hold people accountable.
When you’ve defined clear ownership and invested in others, you’ve sown the seeds of success and earned the right to hold them accountable. You may occasionally get involved in their work, but be sure to give leadership and accountability back to them continually.
