Determine the personality color of a person through written communication

from Surrounded by Idiots: The Four Types of Human Behavior and How to Effectively Communicate with Each in Business by Thomas Erikson

How to Apply This

  1. Evaluate how personal the email is.
If an email contains a bit of small talk at the beginning and is quite personal, you are probably dealing with a Green or Yellow. But if it gets straight to the point and is very formal, it’s probably a Red or Blue.
  2. Determine what information it contains.
A vague email that doesn’t contain too much detailed information is likely written by a Green or Yellow. If it has clear information about what outcomes the person wants but not doesn’t include much-supporting information, it is likely a Red. If it is a long, well-structured email packed with detailed information and answers to your questions, it’s likely a Blue.
  3. Determine whether it was drafted more than once.
You can never know this for sure, but you may tell it based on how well-polished the email is. If it has spelling errors and looks as if it has been written spontaneously, it’s probably a Yellow or a Red. Greens and Blues are more likely to agonize over the email and redraft it, so it’s perfectly worded.
