Consistently communicate and align the brains around the same values.

Self-control is an illusion; you can’t control emotions. But the Thinking Brain can control the meaning of impulses and feelings. You can decipher them however you see fit. It’s the meaning that we ascribe to our feelings that can often alter how the Feeling Brain reacts to them.

Instructions

  1. Use the Thinking Brain to navigate the Feeling Brain.
Interpret feelings in a profound and useful way. Instead of justifying and enslaving yourself to your impulses, accept your emotions and challenge and analyze them.

  2. Create an environment that can bring about the Feeling Brain’s best impulses and intuition, rather than its worst.
Accept working with, rather than against, whatever you feel.
