Become a ‘Talent Magnet’ by finding and unleashing the genius in people

  1. Appreciate all types of genius.
    Look for talent everywhere. Recognize that intelligence has many facets. Some minds excel at quantitative analysis and verbal reasoning. Other minds offer creative genius, innovating through fresh thinking and bold ideas. Some minds are critical, spotting every problem or landmine within a plan, while other minds find a way to tunnel around those landmines.

  2. Find people’s native genius.
    Understand that people love to contribute their genius, so try to figure out exactly what it is. Look out for what they do exceptionally well and absolutely naturally. Start by carefully observing them in action and then look for spikes of authentic enthusiasm and a natural flow of energy.

  3. Utilize people to their fullest.
    Once you’ve uncovered their native genius, look for opportunities that demand that capability and connect them with such.

  4. Remove the blockers.
    Remove, from your team, people who are impeding the growth of others. Get rid of tension and drama. The rest of the team needs to know that you’re choosing them over even super-talented toxic people.

  5. Encourage superstars to grow and leave.
    Recognize when a superstar on your team has outgrown their environment. While most managers try to retain their top players, Talent Magnets know when to let them go. So, go ahead and write those recommendation letters and help your best people find their next stage to perform on. Celebrate their departures and shout their success to everyone!
