Be more social.

The happiest ten percent of people have strong relationships. Social support is far greater a predictor of happiness than any other factor. The more social support you have, the happier you are. We have such a biological need for social support that our bodies can literally malfunction without it.


Here are some ideas for how you can be more social in the office:

  • Greet colleagues with whom you cross paths.
  • Always look people in the eye. It does not matter if you talk or just pass by them; eye contact sends empathy and rapport.
  • Initiate conversations that are not task oriented.
