Spot six ego beliefs that block your link to intention

Medium - Requires some preparation Recommended

John had built his entire self-worth on promotions and paychecks. Whenever a bonus disappeared, he spiraled into anxiety and doubt. What John didn’t realize was that he had six invisible components of ego telling him who and what he was: what he had, what he did, what others thought of him, and even perceived separateness from family, desires, or a higher spirit. These beliefs formed a prison of self-judgment. No amount of positive thinking or pep talks could dismantle these walls because each brick was an ego statement: “I am what I have,” “I am alone,” “I am what others think of me.”

As soon as John learned that intention is a universal force flowing through all life, he recognized these ego beliefs as obstacles to his connection. He spent an afternoon listing his “I am” beliefs and then systematically tested each one by imagining scenarios that broke the rule. He realized he could still be whole without his job title or others’ approval. He reframed his thoughts into “I intend” statements—such as “I intend to belong regardless of circumstance”—and practiced them until his mind matched the frequency of intention.

Psychologists note that core beliefs shape our perception of reality. When beliefs trap us in fear, anxiety, or scarcity, we limit our potential. By identifying and replacing these six ego beliefs with intent-based truths, we not only free ourselves from self-imposed blocks but also realign with that universal force of creativity, love, and abundance.

Begin by writing down your six core “I am” statements and testing their limits by imagining scenarios where they fail. Then turn each into an “I intend…” truth—reminders that reconnect you to infinite possibility. Whenever old ego scripts reappear, repeat your new phrases until you feel the energy shift from constriction into expansion. You’ll soon sense the universal field at work in you.

What You'll Achieve

You’ll uproot self-limiting beliefs, experiencing greater self-respect and emotional freedom. Internally, you’ll feel aligned with your authentic nature; externally, you’ll manifest improved relationships, creativity, and success.

Dismantle each false self-belief

1

List your ‘I am’ stories.

Write down six ways you define yourself by what you have, do, or who you think you are. This reveals ego scripts.

2

Challenge each belief.

For each ‘I am’ statement, ask “Is that always true?” Then imagine the opposite scenario, dissolving extremes.

3

Replace with intent-based truths.

Turn each statement into “I intend to…” such as “I intend to be loved regardless of my accomplishments.”

4

Practice awareness daily.

When old ego scripts resurface, recite your new intent-based truths until they neutralize the old pattern.

Reflection Questions

  • Which ego belief causes you the most pain?
  • How might your life change if that belief were dissolved?
  • What “I intend…” statements feel most liberating?

Personalization Tips

  • A student saying “I am what I get on tests” might replace it with “I intend to learn and grow beyond grades.”
  • An executive who believes “I am my title” can shift to “I intend to contribute value regardless of position.”
