The authors of self-help books want you to take action

The reason the authors of the best self-help books are writing them is to help us achieve our goals and improve our lives.

None

Let’s face the truth. The reason the authors of the best self-help books are writing them is to help us achieve our goals and improve our lives. They know that if we follow their advice, we will grow and get one step closer to our personal definition of success.

But it’s difficult!

Yes! Reading is easy. Acquiring knowledge is easy. However, for most of us, it’s very difficult to get out there and actually use this advice in our lives. It requires motivation, accountability, responsibility, and so on. Actually, the biggest barrier to applying this knowledge is determining what to actually do with all of the information.

Mentorist has found a simple way to help our users take this knowledge and actually use it. We provide a clear path, a clear list of habits to acquire, and a clear set of principles to follow. We did something that the authors of the books couldn’t. Why couldn’t they? Because a book is just a book. And to build intrinsic motivation, you need something more than that. You need a system.

How to acquire soft skills

Soft skills are not taught in schools because there is no one solution that applies to everyone. Some people are born with certain soft skills. But, many of us have to build our mastery of soft skills from the bottom up. I love this quote:

85% of your financial success is due to your personality and ability to communicate, negotiate and lead. Shockingly, only 15% is due to technical knowledge.

— Carnegie Institute of Technology

So, how can you acquire these mysterious soft skills? They cannot be acquired by reading. You can only master them by trying them out; by practicing them and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. And the very first step is to commit to doing so.

Soft skills (and lots more!) at Mentorist

We designed Mentorist in a very unique way. We condensed the best self-help books down into habits and principles. Then, we categorized these habits and principles into a few main skills that each book teaches.

Each skill has a few habits that, taken together, will help you acquire the skill. Soft skills are simply changing the way you react, the way you operate on a daily basis, your routines, your mindset, and your way of making daily decisions.

To acquire a skill, change your habits and mindset.

Growth pathways

Some of the users of Mentorist don’t want to work directly with a single book. This could be because they don’t know which book they should start with. Instead, they want to have a clear path of development. So this is exactly what we created! We gathered all of the knowledge we have distilled (Mentorist has over 1,500 habits and principles from over 100 of the best self-help books!) and created paths of development.

Some of our current paths include:

  • Kick start your career
  • From manager to leader
  • Become independent
  • Reach for promotion
  • Discover your inner power
