Turn Team Members into Self-Directed Contributors

Instructions

  1. Share More Information With Everyone. Identify one area where information is usually kept at the top (finances, strategy, or customer feedback) and begin sharing it regularly with the whole team.

  2. Set Boundaries That Allow For Autonomy. Define 1–2 clear boundaries or guidelines, then let team members make decisions within those limits. For instance, set a budget range but let them choose how to allocate it.

  3. Replace Old Hierarchies With Self-Directed Teams. Pick a project or problem and create a cross-functional team empowered to design and implement solutions, rather than relying solely on managers.
