Try the “five-minute happier” workout

Instructions

  1. Practice acceptance.
You could do this by spending a few minutes each morning just being still and silent. Close your eyes, and try to catch your thoughts and emotions without judgment or self-criticism. Just be who you are right now.
  2. Practice gratitude.
Next, think of two or three things you are grateful for right now. Write it down, say it out loud and be as specific as possible.
  3. Practice intentional kindness.
Think of a gesture you could do right now or perhaps later in your day, something kind and helpful. Write it on your to-do list.
  4. Think of your “bigger why.”
Now look over your to-do list and think how your tasks might serve your purpose. Is there something you can do today to help another person? Do one or more of your tasks bring you closer to your goals?
  5. Schedule some self-care.
Perhaps you can treat yourself to a nutritious breakfast, an afternoon walk, or a bubble bath in the evening. Schedule time to nourish your mind, body, and soul daily.
  6. Say “thank you” to yourself.
Once you have completed all five steps, give yourself a hug for committing and taking some time to cultivate your happier skills. Make it a habit; choose yourself every day!
