from The 4 Disciplines of Execution: Achieving Your Wildly Important Goals by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey & Jim Huling

How to Apply This

  1. Set WIGs.
Think about what you want to achieve in your life. Then, set three goals - one related to your career, one related to your family, and one related to yourself.
  2. Identify lead measures.
Figure out what steps you need to take to reach your goals. For example, if you want to lose weight, you could plan to walk 5 miles a day, not eat after 8 p.m., and limit your calorie intake to 2500 per day.
  3. Track scoreboard.
Monitor your progress and post a scoreboard to keep yourself motivated.
  4. Evaluate progress.
Take 30 minutes each week to review how well you did on your prior commitments and set new goals for the upcoming week.
