Stop demon dialogues in their tracks.

Instructions

  1. Recognize Bad Guy dialogs.
Ask yourself how you feel after "winning" a fight with your partner? How is your relationship affected by your win in the fight? Instead of blaming, talk openly and objectively about your problem.

  2. Recognize the Protest Polka dance in your relationship.
To find out if you're polka dancing, ask yourself: Do you require an emotional response from your partner? Do you or your partner withdraw and distance yourself after an argument? If yes, you are likely in a Protest Polka. To stop it, openly and calmly express your feelings and needs to your partner instead of aggressively demanding something or withdrawing.

  3. Recognize the Freeze and Flee dance in your relationship.
Talk openly with your partner and admit that you often withdraw, freeze, and give up on working on your relationship. Make a list of all the good things this behavior takes away from you. Decide to fight for your relationship.
