Speak less and listen more

Instructions

  1. Let your child talk.
    Before speaking, let the child tell you what they think and feel, what bothers them, and what problem they have. Make an effort to hear your kid, and understand the underlying causes of his behavior or problems.
  2. Create a safe relationship.
    Show your child that you respect and understand them. This will make them feel safe enough to tell you anything, no matter how embarrassing. Make it clear that the child will not face the consequences of sharing their feelings, thoughts, or actions with you.
