Set ‘just-manageable’ goals to achieve

Instructions

  1. Identify an area of your life that you want to improve.
This could be related to work, health, or personal development. For example, you may want to exercise regularly or learn to be more assertive at work.

  2. Find a manageable goal that stretches your ability.
Once you have decided on an area you want to improve, think of a manageable goal that helps you get there. If you want to exercise more, for example, don’t set yourself a goal of running three times a week. Instead, set yourself the manageable goal of a 10-minute run once a week. If you want to be more assertive at work, set yourself the challenge of offering one idea during a meeting. Making sure that it’s manageable is the most important thing here.

  3. Attempt to achieve the goal.
Now, you simply have to attempt your goal. You should have a very clear goal and a set of steps to achieve it, so keep your eventual aim in mind and implement the small goal you have set.

  4. Assess and adjust.
Assessing your goal is a very important step. If you fail to achieve it, don’t worry. Go back to the drawing board and set a slightly easier goal, then start again. If you did achieve the goal, think about how you felt. If you are in control and stress-free, you can adjust your goal and push things further next time. But if you still find your goal challenging, repeat it until you feel ready to move forward.
