Scale back a habit you are conflicted about giving up to improve your wellbeing
from Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything by B.J. Fogg
How to Apply This
-
Identify a habit you are conflicted about, where part of you wants to stop but another part thinks you will miss out on something important
Say you want to quit using Facebook, but you’re scared of missing opportunities to connect with friends. -
Scale back or stop for a short period of time
Commit to stop using Facebook for three days. Alternatively, you could commit to only using it for 30 minutes a day. -
Think about what you have lost and what you have gained
For example, you might discover that giving up or reducing your Facebook use wasn’t as difficult as you’d feared and that this change makes you feel good. You could also discover that this change doesn’t make much of a difference in your life, so ending this habit is no longer a priority.
