When you do not waste time and energy irrationally worrying about events that are unlikely to occur, you will be more happy.


  1. Figure out whether, by the law of averages, there is any real justification for your worries.
    The next time you catch yourself worrying about something—whether it’s about the bridge you’re driving on possibly collapsing, or you getting hit by lighting when you’re out in the rain—ask yourself this question: “What are the chances, according to the law of averages, that this event I am worrying about will ever occur?”
  2. Don’t worry about unlikely events.
    If, by the law of averages, there is a low chance of an event occuring, don’t waste time worrying about it.
