Reframe your failures

Instructions

  1. Reflect on your life and identify your failures
Look back at your life and write down as many of your failures as you can remember. How many things did you mess up over the last week/month/year? Review your failures at least once a month to reframe your failures.
  2. Categorize your failures
Look at your list of failures and group them into 3 categories—Screwups, Weaknesses, and Growth Opportunities. Screwups are simple but unusual mistakes that you rarely make. Weaknesses are habitual mistakes you make despite doing all you can to fix them. Growth opportunities are mistakes that didn’t have to happen but are fixable.
  3. Identify any insights for growth
Focus on your growth opportunity failures instead of the screwups and weaknesses. Ask yourself: Do any of my growth opportunity failures provide insight for real improvement? What can I learn from each one? What went wrong? What can I do differently next time?
