Reflect on your actions and behavior honestly
from The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living by Ryan Holiday, Stephen Hanselman
How to Apply This
-
Schedule a time for a regular reflection on your behavior and actions.
You can do this daily, weekly, or monthly. -
Reflect on your day or week and ask yourself: Where did my behavior live up to my intentions? What did I do well?
Write it down. -
Now ask the opposite: Where did my actions fall short of my intentions? Where did I mess up, and how?
Write it down. -
Evaluate your answers by asking yourself: What can I learn from this experience? What reminder do I need to give myself?
-
Be honest and forgiving.
This is a learning exercise in self-awareness. It is meant to help you move towards your ideals constructively, not to tear you down.
