Recall your past to overcome your current problem
from Unf*ck Yourself: Get Out of Your Head and Into Your Life by Gary John Bishop
How to Apply This
-
Write down one problem you’re currently facing.
Are you experiencing heartbreak, and you’re feeling depressed and lonely? Were you not able to pay your bills due to certain circumstances? Whatever it is, write it down. -
Think of your past. Recall what problem you had before that is similar to your current problem.
Did you also experience heartbreaks before? Have you spent your night reading by candlelight because of your unpaid bills? -
Write down how you were able to overcome your past problem.
-
Write down the lessons you could gain from your past problem.
It could be how you were able to cope with it, how it molded you as a better person, etc. -
Review what you’ve written.
Remind yourself that if you could overcome this similar problem before, you would also overcome it today. -
Say, “I got this.”
You can repeat this affirmation multiple times until you’re confident you can get past your problem.
