Play by Unbreakable Rules to Build Stronger Groups

Analyze a group’s ‘unwritten rules.’ Think of a team, club, or class—what behaviors are always rewarded and which get called out? Note one ‘rule’ that is never actually printed.

Test consequences of breaking a rule. Quietly reflect (don’t act!)—what usually happens to those who cheat or disrupt agreements? Discuss with a mentor or coach the longer-term group effects.

Plan one win-win strategy. Draft a suggestion for your group to make cooperation easier or cheating less appealing; for example, shared points, random team-ups, or recognition for fairness.
