Put yourself at the center of your statement to take full responsibility for your unmet needs

Instructions

  1. Use the phrase “I feel…because I need…” to connect your feeling to your need
If you’re talking to your child, you can say “Mommy feels disappointed when you don’t clean your room because I want you to grow up in a clean and healthy environment.” This template helps you express your unmet needs and values in a compassionate and responsible way. It is better than saying, “Mommy feels disappointed because you don’t clean your room.” You can also teach your child to use this template as well when expressing their needs.
