Prevent pauses in a conversation with preparation

Instructions

  1. Make a list of questions to keep the conversation going
Use the following sample questions: What did you think of…(a book/film/TV show)? Can you recommend a good…(hairdresser/hotel/car service/caterer)? What’s the most important thing in your life? What’s new with your family? Who inspires you the most? How do you spend your free time?

  2. Pay people compliments
Tell people what you like about their appearance and about their behavior: I admire your determination/courage/honesty…, etc.

  3. Share a personal experience
Think about extraordinary stories you’d like to share with other people. Prepare beforehand and choose an experience that isn’t controversial or negative.
