Practice a daily ritual to improve your awareness
from Effortless: Make It Easier to Do What Matters Most by Greg McKeown
How to Apply This
- Clear your physical space.
Take two minutes to clean up and declutter the space around you. Put every item in its appropriate place and then switch off your phone. If necessary, let people know you’re taking a 10-minute break, so you’re not interrupted. - Rest your body.
Sit upright in a comfortable chair and close your eyes. Release tension from every part of your body and breathe as normal. Rest your body for two minutes. - Relax your mind.
As you’re sitting and relaxing, just notice whatever thoughts cross your mind. Acknowledge them without judgment and let them go. Do this for two minutes. - Release your grudges and forgive.
If you start to think about someone who has wronged you, say, “I forgive you.” Then visualize yourself cutting a cord that chains you to them. - Inhale gratitude.
Think of something in your life that you’re truly grateful for. Relive that moment by thinking of where you were, who you were with, and the emotions you felt. Spend two minutes doing this as you breathe in gratitude.
