How to Apply This

  1. Keep one sentimental thing in each category and use them up.
Sort your sentimental things into groups, like children's toys, clothes, old gifts, etc., and then only keep one thing from each group. If you have difficulty throwing something away because you think you haven't used it more, use it and then remove it from your home.
  2. Declutter photos.
Determine how much room you have to dedicate to images, then set that as your limit. Fill the container you have for images with your favorite photos first. Digitalize your photos - take pictures of the photos with your digital camera or phone.
  3. Start with the less sentimental things.
If it's hard and emotional for you to think about getting rid of a certain type of sentimental stuff, don't start with that stuff. Start by getting rid of the things that don't matter to you so much. If you just can't bear to part with sentimental items, make enough room in your home to keep them and give them the safe, special place they deserve.
