Organize your digital work

Instructions

  1. Organize your digital documents.
Examine each file in the "Documents" folder on your hard disk or network device to see whether you need it or not. Ask yourself: Do I need this paper to complete my work? Will this document guide or motivate me in my future work? Does this document make me happy? If you answered no to all these questions, delete the document.
  2. Organize files into three main folders
Store your files in these three main folders: current projects (keep these to no more than ten), records ( for example, legal contracts and employee files), and saved (for example, a presentation from a previous client could help you with a new project. You could also save any research you've done that might be useful in the future, as well as any projects you want to use for your portfolio.
  3. Clean up your desktop.
Delete or move all unnecessary folders from your desktop and put up some inspirational wallpaper. Create one folder with all the files you need to work on currently. Create one "Spark Joy" folder with items that make you feel joyful and proud.
  4. Organize your e-mails
Go to your inbox and decide which emails to keep and discard by answering the following questions: Do you need this email for your job? Will his email teach you something new, give you ideas, or motivate you to work? Does this email spark joy?
Delete the email if you responded "no" to all three questions.
