Motivate others by helping them achieve a sense of meaning in their work.

Instructions

  1. Explain the value of the work you’re giving people to do.
Whether it's your employees at work or your children at home, always ensure that they understand the reason why you’re asking them to perform a task. Sit them down and tell them why their effort matters and how their role fits into the bigger picture.

  2. Keep people updated on the progress of their project.
Let’s say you have a big project with different phases, with each phase involving a different set of employees. Provide software that allows the employees involved to monitor the overall progress of every phase as the project progresses. This regular feedback gives them the satisfaction of seeing how their efforts are contributing to the completion of the project.

  3. Acknowledge individual contribution to the organization’s success.
Take time to personally thank those who helped achieve a goal. At home, thank your kids for helping with any kind of housework. At work, hold a meeting and publicly acknowledge everyone who participated in the success of a project. Call everyone by name and congratulate them for a job well done.
