Sell yourself effectively in job interviews

  1. Identify the value you can provide to the company.
Think about the skills and experiences you've gained over the past years. Pinpoint what makes you stand out and write down a compelling pitch that demonstrates how your unique attributes will resolve challenges or drive success within the company.
  2. Maintain an open, enthusiastic, and professional demeanor.
In your interactions and communication with the employer, be genuine and open. Show authentic enthusiasm for the position and the company. Whenever possible, share relevant examples from your past experience that display your genuine interest and alignment with the role and organization.
  3. Be prepared for potential questions.
Identify potential challenging questions you may face during the interview (such as reasons for changing jobs frequently) and develop confident, honest, and positive responses for them. Ensure that your answers portray you in a favorable light while maintaining authenticity.
  4. Research the company thoroughly.
Gather as much information as possible about the company, its culture, challenges, and recent developments. Use this knowledge to tailor your responses during the interview, showcasing your awareness and keen interest in the organization.
  5. Formulate insightful questions to ask the interviewer
Based on your research about the company and the role, create a list of intelligent and insightful questions to ask during the interview. Ensure these questions reflect your preparation and genuine interest in understanding the organization and the role better.
  6. Listen actively and engage in the conversation.
During the interview, focus on actively listening to the interviewer’s responses and comments. Use this information to engage in a two-way conversation. Show them how interested you are in their responses and in being part of the organization.
  7. Send a follow-up 'thank you' email
Post-interview, send a thank you email expressing your gratitude for the opportunity to interview. Include key points discussed during the interview and reiterate your enthusiasm for the position. This not only displays your manners but also keeps you in the mind of the interviewer.
