Pushing yourself to take action creates a chain reaction in productivity, courage, and confidence. You create the momentum. The more you push yourself—5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 … GO—the faster it becomes natural to make decisions and act instead of procrastinate.
- Every time you need to do something but cannot find enough motivation or are afraid of failure, start counting backward: 5 … 4 … 3 … 2 … 1 ...
Remember that counting forward doesn’t have such power.
You can use this in many situations, like to give an opinion at an official meeting, ask for a raise, ask a person you like out on a date, stand up and go to the gym, and many others.
- When you stop counting, ACT.
If you wait longer, you can lose your initial courage and power and instead start overthinking and finding excuses.
Treat counting backward like launching a rocket. There is no step back. Just act.
