Make decisions based on potential outcomes

Make decisions based on potential outcomes

from Thinking in Bets: Making Smarter Decisions When You Don't Have All the Facts by Annie Duke

How to Apply This

  1. Hire decision buddies.
Hire future versions of yourself. This means you have to consider different future versions of yourself after the outcome of your decision has happened to envision which version you would prefer.

  2. Adopt the 10-10-10 technique.
Before making a decision, ask yourself: “How would the consequences of my decision affect me in ten minutes? Ten months? Ten years?”

  3. Make a “decision swear jar.”
Keep yourself accountable by putting a dollar in the “decision swear jar” every time you disconnect from truth-seeking. When you find yourself making excuses and sticking to your biased beliefs, put a dollar in the jar, and try to rethink your ways toward the actual truth.
