Instructions

  1. Set an intention for the emotional state you want to anchor.
    This will be a conscious decision based on the circumstances you are about to face. For example, “absolute certainty” is a state you must be in when you enter any sales encounter.

  2. Choose your focus.
    Close your eyes and go back to a moment in your life when you felt absolutely certain – such as closing a tough sale. Create a vivid picture of this in your mind’s eye, take in the whole scene and imagine you are looking down at yourself from above.

  3. Choose your physiology.
    Change your physiology to match the physiology of the state you want to anchor. Ensure your stance/walk, breathing, gestures, and expressions resonate with the emotion.

  4. Intensify your state.
    a )Use your five senses to intensify the feeling of the emotion, both externally (real world) and internally (mind’s eye).
    b) Put the still picture in your mind’s eye and put it in motion like a movie so you can connect to the scene and intensify your certainty.
    c) Add dialogue from your memory with perfect tonality and body language.
    d) Edit your internal movie so it becomes more real to you – imagine each change occupies a part of your body

  5. Set your anchor.
    Link the intense state you have created to a word or mantra or perhaps even an external sound or sharp feeling – like a shout or loud clapping of hands.

  6. Use nasal vapor stimulation (smell) to anchor a state of certainty (also known as olfactory anchoring).
    a) Ensure the scent is extreme, unusual, powerful, pungent, and pleasing;
    b) Source in a compact, portable delivery system (scent stick, for example) that won’t impact others around you;
    c) Wait for an awesome moment, when you close a huge sale, for example, then choose a state such as absolute certainty;
    d) Set your anchor by using the scent stick to take a deep inhale, then clench your fists tightly, then in a controlled manner, belt out the word “Yes”;
    e) Repeat the process ten seconds later, and finally; 
    f) Repeat steps c to e the next time you make a great sale to embed the anchor.
