Let go of the lost ideas

Let go of the lost ideas

from Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert

How to Apply This

  1. If you can't keep your work flowing anymore because your ideas are gone, take a pause and accept that it's best to let go.
An example is when you’re working on a novel and left it unattended for long. Then when you return, you cannot keep the story flowing anymore. In this case, try pausing for a moment. Tell yourself that while it’s painful, the best way is to let go.

  2. Find something else to do. Keep diverting your attention onto it until you can finally move past your lost ideas.
Try doing something new. If you haven’t painted before, try enrolling in an art class. Keeping yourself busy is a helpful way to move on.

  3. Open your mind to welcoming new ideas once you finally moved on. Make sure not to lose it again.
