Leave a legacy

Instructions

  1. Give without expectations
From the very beginning, actively clear your mind of any expectations. Do as much as you can without keeping score, and accept that the world isn’t fair. Remind yourself to do things because they are the right thing to do.

  2. Avoid burnout by clarifying your contribution
Ask yourself why you’re giving, when you’re giving, and who you’re giving to. Give freely to something bigger than yourself, balance your contributions to yourself with what you give to others, and give to those who will pay it forward and give to others.

  3. Decide how you want to be remembered
The people you interact with now will remember you after you’re gone. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? If you’re not sure about what to do, make a list of the world issues that affect or challenge you the most and support it as much as you can (blog, donate, fund, speak about it, etc).

  4. Pay it forward
Start a new chain of paying it forward every day with simple actions. For example, help someone cross the street, put a few cents into expired parking meters, listen to someone who needs support, or even just say “thank you”.

  5. Make peace with yourself through journaling
The next time you feel feelings and emotions of your past come up, write it all out. Reflect on yourself and learn to love what you discover.

  6. Dedicate your time to what makes the biggest difference
We can’t control a lot of things, but we can control our time. Spend it on what matters.
