Instructions

  1. Think of something that makes you anxious or sad at the moment.
    For example, you have an upcoming exam or feel you have lost touch with your best friend.
  2. Complete the following sentence: “I’m not happy that [insert what is causing you to suffer], but this is how it is right now.
    Writing it down makes it real and is the next step toward acceptance. Yes, it may be difficult to finally see things as they are. However, it is crucial to accept your thoughts and feelings.
  3. Write down three things you can do to improve the situation.
    Perhaps you could plan on studying a few extra hours on the weekend or reach out to your friend and talk about your feelings. Make these small steps to shift your energy from suffering to moving beyond the situation.
