Lead your team at a more personal level

Instructions

  1. Have deeper conversations.
When holding your regular one-on-one meetings with team members, go beyond their tasks and talk about the ‘heart’ issues. These meetings are the perfect forum for getting at the subtle and deep work-related problems affecting them. Find out if they’re satisfied with their performance, if there’s any frustration or obstacle in their way, or if they have doubts about where their career is headed.

  2. Give and encourage feedback.
Give your team members regular and constructive feedback on their performance. Also ask them for feedback on your performance as their leader, and encourage them to speak freely.

  3. Give due recognition regularly.
In addition to company recognitions and those from you as a leader, institute peer-to-peer recognition, where employees are encouraged to give shout-outs to colleagues who helped them out with a task or did a good job of one. Share these recognition stories using newsletters or the company blog, and always tie them back to company goals and strategy.
