Keep your Second Brain organized and functional

Instructions

  1. Adopt the habit of keeping a project checklist.
Create one checklist for the start of the project and another for completion. For example, your first list can contain the following tasks:
     - Write down the new project idea.
     - Browse the Second Brain to find information related to the idea.
     - Move found information in the project folder.
     - Outline collected notes and project.
Your completion checklist can contain these tasks:
     - Mark project as complete in task manager
     - Transfer notes from a finished project to a different folder so they may be reused for the next project.
     - Move completed project in the archive.

  2. Adopt the habit of reviewing your Second Brain regularly.
Practice weekly and monthly reviews of your Second Brain. Every week, clear your email inbox, desktop and notes, check your calendar and choose tasks for the coming week. Once a month, review and update your goals and project lists, define your responsibilities for that month and reprioritize tasks if needed.

  3. Adopt the habit of noticing a way to improve your Second Brain.
Practice the ability to notice ideas worth keeping in notes. Before you dismiss an idea you come across, ask yourself if it's potentially useful. Notice when an idea resonates with you, and highlight it. Notice if you can link a note to another or transfer it to another folder where it will be more helpful. Analyze and think about all the elements of your Second Brain, but don't stress about it being perfect.
