Keep your attention till the end

Keep your attention till the end

from Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu

How to Apply This

  1. Keep up your attention when you are at the end of your task or project.
When you have a long drive arriving home, the most dangerous part of it is the last 5-10%. You already feel like you are home, so your attention weakens because of the upcoming comfort. This is the point where most of the accidents happen. And it is the same with anything else you do. Do work you do for a living. The side hustle you started. The one project you are working on right now. Most of the mistakes are made at the finish line. Prevent it, by increasing your concentration before completing anything.

  2. Rest before finishing
Let’s say, you are already in a 4-hour work session on your project. You feel that it can be finished with one more hour of work. But do not forget, that your focus and concentration diminishes with time. You should be able to spot where you reach the point of diminishing returns—where your work is progressing backward. In similar cases pause your work, take a rest and continue tomorrow.
