Designing Your Life
Self-management
Improve your chances of finding a job via online job listings
from Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life by Bill Burnett, Dave Evans
How to Apply This
- Describe yourself using the same keywords as on the job description
For example, if the job description says “Good writing skills,” include those exact keywords instead of putting “I’m a good writer” in your resume. This will raise your chances of being discovered in a keyword scan. If you don’t have the skill the company wants, find a way to describe the skill you have using the same keywords as in the job posting. - Focus on what you can offer as described in the listing
Use your resume to talk about what you can do for the company instead of why the job is a good fit for you. Be specific in how you can answer the needs of the company. Describe yourself as someone who has specialized in that field instead of appearing as a multidisciplinary individual. - Carry a clean, printed copy of your resume to the interview
This will show the interviewer how much care you put into designing your resume.
