Identify what it takes to become an ethical leader

Instructions

  1. Study leaders who have displayed ethical failure
Research and find any leaders who have shown lapses in integrity and character. Ask yourself: What led them down that road? What decisions did they make that caused their ethical failure? What can I do to avoid the mistakes they made?
  2. Study leaders who are known to be trustworthy
Identify a leader within your organization who has a reputation for being honest and trusted. Ask yourself: What are they doing to maintain such a good reputation? What can I do to enhance my reputation as an ethical leader? Then take action to follow in their footsteps.
  3. Assess your character
Perform a self-evaluation and ask yourself: Are my actions consistent with my words? Do I stand up for my values and principles? Can I speak up about tough issues? You can also ask your colleagues and friends to give feedback on your character either through anonymous surveys or face-to-face conversations.
