Figure out your definition of success

Instructions

  1. Define what success means to you.
Success means different things to everyone. It's important to reflect on what success looks like for you personally. Instead of focusing on others' expectations, think about what makes you feel fulfilled. Is it reaching a personal milestone, feeling happy, or making a difference in someone's life? Identify your own goals and aspirations. Write them down.
  2. Learn from failures.
Whenever you experience failure or commit a mistake, don't run away from it; instead, face them and ask yourself what went wrong. This could involve looking at a project that didn't go as planned and figuring out why. Use what you learn to do better next time. This way, each failure becomes a step towards success.
  3. Broaden your self-concept.
Remember, you're not limited to a single identity or career path. You have the potential to be many things based on your interests and skills. Explore all the things you're interested in or good at, and allow yourself to pursue them. Perhaps, you are a teacher who loves painting or a doctor who enjoys writing poems. By acknowledging and celebrating the many facets of your personality, you can lead a more fulfilling life.
  4. Seek guidance.
Facing obstacles is part of the journey. When challenges arise, seek out mentors who have gone through similar situations or who embody your aspirations. It could be a colleague, a community figure, or a friend. Ask specific questions like, "How did you navigate this challenge?" Learning from others' experiences can offer valuable insights and motivation.
  5. Contemplate your progress.
Make it a habit to reflect on your personal growth and learning experiences, beyond just the outcomes. Set aside time weekly to write down what went well, what didn't, and how you've evolved through those challenges. Appreciate your development as much as your achievements. The process of growing through each experience is a part of your success, too.
