Fix your marriage.

from The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts by Gary Chapman

The first step in fixing a broken marriage is to meet your spouse’s needs. Once you do this, they will be more likely to reciprocate and meet yours.

How to Apply This

  1. Ask how you can be a better spouse.
Regardless of your spouse’s attitude, act on what they tell you. Assure your spouse that your motives are pure and continue to seek input and comply with their wishes. For example, if they say they wished that you helped out more around the house, start doing the laundry or cooking dinner every now and then.

  2. When you begin to receive positive feedback, ask for one request related to your primary love language.
Do this once a month. The request can be anything that you would like your spouse to do. Maybe you would like them to hug you more or take you out on a date.

  3. Give your spouse positive feedback when they fulfill your request.
Tell them how much you appreciate what they do for you.

  4. Regularly reflect on how you are doing.
You can schedule time in your calendar to think about how you are doing regarding meeting your spouse’s emotional needs. Reflect on the feedback they give you, and think about whether what you’re doing is truly what they want from you.
