Feel every moment fully.
Almost everyone lives like this most of the time. Since the future never arrives, except as the present moment, it’s a dysfunctional way to live. It generates a constant undercurrent of unease, tension, and discontent. It does not honor life, which is Now and never not Now. Learn to be completely present with the present task that you are doing.
The next time you are doing something, such as putting away the dishes, doing a business strategy, or planning a trip, ask yourself the following questions:
What is more important?
- The doing, or the result?
- This moment, or some future moment?
- Am I treating this moment like an obstacle to overcome?
- Am I feeling that some future moment to get to is more important than this present moment?
Repeat the following to yourself at least twice daily for the next 20 days:
I am not my thoughts, emotions, senses, and experiences.
I am not the content of my life.
I am life.
I am the space in which all things happen.
I am consciousness.
I am the Now.
