Beans are vegetables and a valuable source of protein. They are a healthy source of protein, without saturated fat or sodium and free of cholesterol. They are rich in fiber, potassium, and many more nutrients.


Examples: Black beans, black-eyed peas, butter beans, chickpeas, kidney beans, lentils, miso, pinto beans, small red beans, tempeh.

Daily recommendation: 3 servings per day

Serving size:

  • 60g hummus or bean dip
  • 130g cooked beans, lentils, tofu, or tempeh
  • 150g fresh peas or sprouted lentils
