Do the Bezos test to determine the idea you will pursue

Instructions

  1. Do the Bezos test to find out which idea to pursue now.
Imagine yourself on your 80th birthday: You pull out the list of ideas you just created and realize you did nothing on the list. Write down what you regret doing nothing about. Then, imagine you had a short time to live and could only keep four items on the list. Decide what to keep and cross out everything else. Order from most to least important. If you can't decide which idea to pursue, ask yourself, "If this is the last thing I ever do, will it be something I'm proud to be remembered for?"
  2. Practice small acts of enjoyment.
If the concept that you are allowed to pursue what you are truly passionate about is new, start by doing small pleasurable acts throughout the day. Pay special attention to the ones that you want to discard as being “stupid and pointless.” For example, ordering the fancier beverage at a favorite cafe, taking a new class at the gym, eating a work lunch outdoors, or taking the scenic route. Make a note of how you feel about taking action in the face of your own resistance. Practice strengthening your “joy muscles.”
