Derive meaning from your adversities

Instructions

  1. Manage your negative thought patterns with meditation or cognitive therapy
Both of these strategies will help you avoid negative thoughts and ruminations related to any adversity you may have experienced in your life.

  2. Build your social support network by talking to your trusted friends
Having one or two good relationship attachments help humans (and animals!) in facing threats. If you have a few trusted friends who are good listeners, they can help you in finding meaning in your past adversities.

  3. Write about what happened
In the months after adversity, take a piece of paper and write continuously for 15 minutes about what happened. Just keep writing without censoring yourself and without any concern for grammar or structure. Research has shown that people who write out their thoughts in such a manner over several days draw insight from their adversities, lead healthier lives, and become happier.
