Cope with a loss of a loved one

Instructions

  1. Keep your “relationship” with the person you lost.
Try out some different approaches to reconnecting with your lost loved one. Such activities might include spending time at a cemetery or monument or visiting a special place the two of you shared.
  2. Take care of yourself.
Discover resources for maintaining your health and well-being, and focus on your individual needs. Exercise regularly, eat healthily, and keep some social interaction.
  3. Express grief.
Find a way to express your grief. It could be through silent reflection, memorials, sharing with friends, journaling, etc.
  4. Give yourself time.
Don't force yourself to overcome grief by a certain date; instead, take it day by day until you feel stronger. Stressing out how you're supposed to feel by a specific date will only worsen things; if other people tell you how you should feel and behave, set boundaries, and follow your emotions and needs.
  5. Maintain a healthy daily life structure.
Find a good balance between taking time to grieve and keeping your daily routine and structure. Take the time you need to grieve, but don't forget about healthy habits and socializing.
